WILLCOM Announces the BWA Ubiquitous Network Conference;
Moving towards the Development of New Businesses Using Next-generation PHS WILLCOM CORE Network
|
WILLCOM is pleased to announce plans for the BWA Ubiquitous Network Conference, which will, in cooperation with various companies and local government bodies, examine the development of new businesses using the next generation PHS WILLCOM CORE high-speed communication infrastructure network. With this conference, WILLCOM is encouraging broad participation of parties including corporations, local governments, and researchers and held the first meeting on July 28.
The conference will examine new services, from a comprehensive perspective including technology and the legal system, such as collecting and sharing sensor information and images generated by the BWA Ubiquitous Network and that are based on the unique characteristics of WILLCOM CORE, a high-speed, high-quality network comprised of an extremely large number of base stations. In addition, the conference is aiming to develop bodies such as future consortiums with the goal of a broad future expansion, including commercialization.
Background and outline of the conference
In social and economic activities, knowledge of state of locations though data such as images can be an indispensable factor from the perspectives of safety and revitalizing the local community. Taking weather as an example, it will be possible to obtain a larger volume of information with images of an area where it is raining than from simple text stating that "rain is 5mm per hour." Use of this information, based on the development of information technology and networks, will not only contribute to an increase in the efficiency of business but will also support peace of mind and safety in the local community. As such, demand for this information will continue to grow.
Next year, WILLCOM expects to launch its WILLCOM CORE service, which makes high-speed mobile communication possible. Using high-speed communication lines for this service, it will be possible to smoothly transmit information such as images. Based on the introduction of the WILLCOM CORE and with the cooperation of businesses and organizations, such as camera/sensor vendors, security companies, solution companies, and local governments, WILLCOM will provide services by constructing and operating a broad network of fixed cameras and sensors, making use of WILLCOM CORE's communication network.
|
| Services may include: |
| 1) |
Crime prevention in cities with the goal of safety and peace of mind |
| 2) |
Observation of locations during events such as natural disasters (such as rivers, mountains, and bays) |
| 3 |
Collection of climate and environmental information |
| 4 |
Gaining real time understanding of traffic conditions |
| 5 |
Checking the state of items such as stores and machines in offices, etc. |
|
 |
| |
|
In addition, WILLCOM is sure that WILLCOM CORE will be fully able to make use of the technological aspects of the network when the network of fixed cameras and sensors is constructed.
