WILLCOM Acquires License for 2.5GHz Spectrum Base Stations with the Goal of Introducing "Next Generation PHS"
|
Aiming to commercialize "next generation PHS," WILLCOM Inc. applied to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communication for approval to construct base stations for a broadband mobile wireless access system that employs the 2.5GHz frequency and was officially notified of the approval by the ministry today.
We consider the approval of the license strong praise for our business plan related to the "next generation PHS," which is based on WILCOM's efforts up to the present time and includes technological development, creation of a mobile data transmission market, promotion of open business including MVNO, international cooperation, elimination of regional gaps, and medical care. We would like to express our deep respect for the extensive knowledge of both the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communication and members of the Radio Regulatory Council.
WILLCOM is actively working to expand the present generation of PHS while also fully striving to launch "next generation PHS" services as early as possible, while contributing to the development of Japan's communications (technology) and public issues, such as strengthening international competitiveness, eliminating regional gaps, and introducing ICT in the medical field.
