| The
Carlyle Group and Kyocera's Acquisition of DDI Pocket
Agreed with KDDI |
Tokyo,
June 21 -- A basic agreement was reached today through
which DDI Pocket will receive equity participation from
the independent American investment firm The Carlyle Group
and Kyocera, becoming independent of present controlling
shareholder KDDI.
Under the agreement, DDI Pocket will enter into a new
capital structure on Oct. 1 of this year in which new
shareholders The Carlyle Group and Kyocera will hold 60%
and 30% respectively, while KDDI, which presently holds
80% of DDI Pocket, will retain 10%.
"This agreement is intended to significantly enhance DDI
Pocket's PHS business with the support of the Carlyle
Group's broad experience in global telecommunications,
and the increased support of Kyocera, which has been supporting
DDI Pocket's business through technology development and
commercialization since its inception", DDI Pocket President
Takeo Yamashita said. "Our senior management and employees
will work together with our new partners to create new
added value."
There will be no service interruptions for customers from
this shareholder change.
The new DDI Pocket will continue to place primary emphasis
on its flat-rate mobile data communications service, "
AirH" ", and new data and voice services that will be
offered, taking advantage of various PHS merits such as
the clear voice quality and minimal electromagnetic radiation
and miniaturization.
DDI Pocket would like this event to be seen as the first
step toward even great strides to be taken by the Company,
and asks for your continued support .
