Pocket Introduces a New Data Compression Functionality
to PRIN, Greatly Enhancing Internet Speed on AirH", Reducing
Download Time of Home Pages |
DDI POCKET,
Inc. (Headquarter: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Takeo
Yamashita) is pleased to announce today that it will introduce
a new data compression function applicable to PRIN, an
Internet access service for AirH" users, to bring users
an effectively faster and more pleasurable Internet access
environment.
The data compression functionality has been made possible
with the cooperation of Motorola Japan Ltd and US based
Fourelle Systems, Inc. |

| 1. Overview of Data
Compression Functionality |

| The data compression functionality
will be introduced as a value added feature of PRIN, an
Internet access service, to bring more pleasurable usage
environment to AirH" users. This functionality makes the
Internet communication protocol more efficient and compresses
image data, which reduces communications time for viewing
home pages, receiving and sending e-mails, and downloading
data files, thereby speeding up the Internet experiences
of users. |

| 2. Description of Data
Compression Function |

| The data compression function
includes two enhancements. |

More efficient
communications protocol
Various Internet communications protocols are converted
to a protocol that suits AirH", resulting in more efficient
data communications. |

Data compression
The data sent and received is compressed, reducing the
transmission time. |
| These features generate
results as follows: |

Browsing
home pages |

Along
with more efficient communications protocol
and downsizing the file size of JPEG
and GIF image data files, the time taken
to display the entire home page can
be reduced drastically.
*Users can configure compression rates
in four levels. |

Sending
and receiving e-mails |

Along
with more efficient communications protocol,
and by reducing the file size of data
transmitted, the transmission time is
reduced. |

transfers |

Along
with more efficient communications protocol,
and by reducing the file size of data
transmitted, the time taken to download
and transfer files is reduced. |

- Protocol
for browsing home pages and Web-Mails |

- Protocol for receiving
e-mails from the servers that store electronic mails |

- A protocol for
receiving e-mails like POP3, but the e-mails are managed
in the mail boxes in the servers, and users are able to
decide whether to receive the e-mails by browsing through
the subject titles and the e-mail sender |
| SMTP |
- Protocol for sending
e-mails to servers, and exchanging e-mails among servers. |
| FTP |
- Protocol for file
transfers (file downloads). |

The data compression
functionality must be configured individually for each
type of communications protocol. |


| Between dedicated software
installed on the users' PC and the dedicated data compression
server in the PRIN Center, performing more efficient communication
protocol and data compression. |


| Users will not be charged
for the data compression functionality. |

| 5. AirH" Services Supporting
Data Compression |
| All AirH" protocols, which
include 32k packet, 128k packet and Flex Change transmissions,
are supported. |


| Users are to install Fourelle
Venturi for AirH"-PRIN, a dedicated software provided
free of charge, on their PCs. |

The dedicated
software can be downloaded from DDI POCKET's site free
of charge. CD-ROMs are also available. |

| 7. Regarding Fourelle
Venturi for AirH"-PRIN |

The special software used
for the data compression function, Fourelle Venturi for
AirH"-PRIN, has been provided by US-based Fourelle Systems,
Inc.
The software is copyrighted by Fourelle Systems, Inc.
The software supports the following OS:
Windows98, Windows98 SE, WindowsMe,WindowsXP, Windows2000,
WindowsNT4.0 |
