POCKET Launches AirH", New Data Communications Service
that Achieves a Total Wireless Internet Environment with
Fixed Rates for Unlimited Internet Access |
| DDI POCKET,
Inc. is pleased to announce that it will launch AirH"
(pronounced Air Edge), a new wireless data communications
service that uses packet switching technology, on June
1, 2001. A packet switching function has been added to
the current network infrastructure for this service, which
achieves highly reliable data communications with lower
fees. Preparations are also under way to offer higher
data speed (128kbps, and others) in this fall. |
AirH" is a new type of
data communications service that makes use of packet switching.
In addition to the conventional circuit exchange at 64kbps,
by introducing packet switching, highly reliable data
communications with low cost will be achieved. Upon deploying
the packet switching system onto the network, DDI POCKET
will utilize a dedicated IP network for the baseline part
of the network, which will enable volume transmissions
at a lower cost.
Flat fee plan is available at 5,950 yen per month, after
the annual discount scheme takes effect, while users are
required to pay a separate internet provider fee to their
ISPs.
With the launch of AirH", users will be able to access
the Internet through the access services of PRIN(by DDI
POCKET) or DION(by KDDI). In addition, Seiko Instruments
Inc. (SII) will be releasing the AirH" Card, a PC card
enabling AirH" communications. |
| 2. Transmission Technology |
| Two transmission methods
will be available for AirH". The Flex Change Method automatically
switches between 64kbps circuit switching and 32kbps packet
switching, depending on the volume of data transmission.
A 32kbps Packet Switching Method solely uses 32kbps packet
switching. |
| DDI POCKET will offer fees
for both transmission methods, which take advantage of
the cost performance of each backbone. |

of up to 25 hours/month provided free of charge.

| 6. Internet Access Services
Supporting AirH" |
PRIN (by DDI POCKET) and

The Flex Change Method will be supported from June 1,
and 32kbps packet switching will be supported from August.
Among DION users, Mini-Mini, Betsu-Betsu and Bari-Bari
connection types will apply.
